22) Care Worker

  • Care Workers are professionals who completed an education course at an educational institute that trains care workers, passed the national examination and acquired the license awarded by the government. They provide services such as physical, psychological, mental, emotional and social care for recipients of long-term care benefits upon the instructions of doctors and nurses at medical welfare facilities for the elderly or in-home care agencies for the elderly.

  • Eligibility
    1. Those who completed 240 hours of standard education course; those who are a licensed personnel such as Nurse, Nursing Aide, Physical Therapist, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist and completed 40 to 50 hours of education course; or those who have recognized care experience and completed education course for the experienced (duration of education is dependent on the organization that they have accumulated experience in) at a care worker training institute designated by a mayor or a local governor according to Article 39-3 of the Enforcement Rule of the Welfare of the Aged Act, will be qualified to take the examination for care workers.

    Disqualification standards
    1. A mentally ill person under Subparagraph 1 of Article 3 of the Mental Health Act(except for those who are recognized by a medical specialist to be fit to act as a care worker)
    2. An addict to narcotics, marijuana or any psychoactive drugs
    3. An incompetent or a quasi-incompetent person
    4. A person in whose case, the execution of a sentence is not completed or the decision not to execute such sentence is not yet finalized after being sentenced to imprisonment without prison labor or a heavier punishment
    5. A person whose license was suspended or lost by the ruling of the court
    6. A person whose license as a care worker has been cancelled and for whom one year has not elapsed

  • Those who score at least 60 percent in the written component and at least 60 percent in the practical skill test will be considered to be successful candidates.
