25) Preliminary examination for DLE

  • Eligibility
    1. A person who graduated from an overseas school with a major in dentistry, which is recognized by the Minister of Health and Welfare and has been licensed as dentist by the competent authorities.

      A person who was studying at an overseas dental school recognized by the Minister of Health and Social Affairs as of July 8, 1994, needs to have graduated from the school to be eligible.
    ※ Applicants who have submitted an application for the recognition of an overseas university as of May 31, 2010 should be noted that an application form only submitted by graduates of a university recognized by the Credential Committee for International Graduates is received. A candidate's eligibility may be revoked even after the receipt of application if the university is not recognized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
    Disqualification standards
    1. A mentally ill person under Subparagraph 1 of Article 3 of the Mental Health Act(except for those who are recognized by a medical specialist to be fit to act as a medical person)
    2. An addict to narcotics, marijuana or any psychoactive drugs
    3. An incompetent or a quasi-incompetent person
    4. A person in whose case, the execution of a sentence is not completed or the decision not to execute such sentence is not yet finalized after being sentenced to imprisonment without prison labor or a heavier punishment due to the violation of the Medical Service Act or Articles 233 (falsification of medical certificates, etc.), 234 (using falsified private documents, etc.), 269 (abortion), 270 (abortion by doctors, etc. or abortion without consent), 317(1) (occupational breach of confidentiality) or 347 (applicable only to cases of deceiving a patient or institution or organization responsible for payment of medical expenses by claiming medical expenses by false) of the Criminal Act, the Act on Special Measures for the Control of Public Health Crimes, the Regional Public Health Act, the Prevention of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome Act, the Emergency Medical Service Act, the Act on the Special Measures for Public Health and Medical Services in Agricultural and Fishing Villages, etc., the Anatomy and Preservation of Corpses Act, the Blood Management Act, the Act on the Control of Narcotics, etc., the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act, the Mother and Child Health Act, or any other Acts and subordinate statues governing medical affairs specified by Presidential Decree
    Restrictions on eligibility for examinations
    1. A person who falls under any of the disqualification standards above
    2. A person who cheats or undertakes any form of irregular behavior in any national examinations
    3. A person who has been suspended from taking an examination, or whose passing has been invalidated pursuant to B above, should not be eligible for taking the national examination, etc. conducted twice consecutively thereafter.

    ※ Essential Dental Science: oral and maxillofacial structure and development, growth, function and metabolism, history taking and medical examination; oral and maxillofacial imaging, functions, pathological examinations; diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillofacial diseases and deformities; understanding of dental materials; public oral health and prevention and education of oral diseases; and understanding of Korean dental medicine
  • First test (written)
    1. Successful candidates are Those who have obtained the advanced level (at least level 5) of the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) administered by the National Institute for International Education(which must be valid on the day of the first pre-test), and who have scored at least 60 percent across all subjects excluding the Korean language.
    ※ However, those who graduated from a middle school and high school whose classes were conducted in the Korean language in Korea referred to in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act are exempted from the subject of the Korean language in the test.
    Second test (clinical skills)
    1. Those who have scored at least 60 percent in the clinical skill test will be considered successful candidates.
